Kefir, Keto and Keeping Up With the Kardashians
Posted by nexbaau on 24th Mar 2021
You’d be hard up to find anyone more invested in staying in shape than the Kardashians.
From protein-rich breakfasts to exercise as stress relief and keeping healthy snacks on hand, they know what works. And they have a team of nutritionists, personal trainers and dieticians giving them top-notch advice.
It’s no secret that we love our probiotics here at Nexba, so we were pretty excited to see Kourtney reaching for a probiotic drink (a lot like kefir) on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. And she’s pretty vocal about her success in curbing sugar cravings, burning fat and losing weight with the keto diet, too.
So whether you’re wanting to sculpt your body, clean up your diet or just try out keto – yes, kefir is for you. (Personal chefs and live-in trainers not required.)
What is kefir?
Kefir is a delicious, nutrient-packed, fermented drink that’s full of gut-loving probiotics and perfect no matter your lifestyle and diet.
It tastes a bit like natural yoghurt – slightly sweet, slightly sour and totally ready to blow your mind with the health benefits it brings.
What is keto?
Keto (aka ‘the ketosis diet’) is a high-fat, low-carb diet that aims to get your body into a state of ketosis. This is when your body only burns fat for energy instead of the carbohydrates from your food that it would normally use.
While not all experts agree, some studies do show that keto can be a great way to lose weight and manage diabetes.
Is kefir keto-friendly?
Yes! Kefir can be an awesome drink to incorporate into your keto diet. The goal with most keto diets is to limit your carbohydrates to 20-50 grams a day. An average serving of kefir contains around 10-13 grams of carbs – well within that limit.
Better yet, Nexba’s Kefir has just 0.6 grams of carbohydrates. That’s because we make it with water, not milk, and we keep it sweet with our no-sugar, ZERO calorie natural sweetener blend.
Is kefir healthy?
Heck yes, it is! Kefir is full of nutrients, vitamins and probiotics, so it’s a great addition to almost any diet.
Our bodies are filled with live bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are the good guys – the ones that help our bodies to digest the food we eat and even help to create important vitamins.
And studies show that kefir is one of the best sources of probiotics available, with up to 56 different bacterial and yeast strains!
Does kefir help you lose weight?
Losing weight isn’t as simple as introducing just one magic ingredient in your diet. But if reducing calories (or carbs) is part of your weight-loss strategy, Nexba Kefir could provide the perfect sweet hit when you’re looking for one.
It has just 6 calories per serve, no sugar and less than 1g of carbohydrates! But it’s still delicious, thanks to its natural sweeteners.
What else is kefir good for?
We’re so glad you asked! Kefir is far from just a tasty little treat. All those probiotics in kefir have been linked to a bunch of other health benefits including:
- boosting your immune system
- improving allergy and asthma symptoms
- treating yeast infections like candida
- maybe even fighting cancer cells.
And that’s only the scientifically proven benefits. We’re still discovering all the amazing uses for kefir. Some people use kefir for indigestion. And some even say using it on their skin for eczema is an excellent way to relieve and maybe even cure symptoms!
Nexba Kefir is also lactose-free, vegan-friendly and great for diabetics
Nexba Kefir is made with water, not milk, so it has no lactose or dairy, and it’s 100% vegan-friendly. So, whether you’re lactose intolerant or just want to reduce your dairy intake, you don’t have to miss out on the benefits of kefir.
And, because it has absolutely no sugar, it’s also great for people with diabetes.
How to enjoy your kefir
OK, you’re red-hot raring to go on kefir now (we told you it was awesome). So how do you add it into your food plan?
Sure, it’s perfect just on its own. But with a bit of imagination, you can use it in so many other ways, including:
- as a base for smoothies and breakfast bowls to start your day with a probiotic hit
- whizzed up with fruit and veggies, then frozen into a popsicle mould and enjoyed as a sweet treat
- mixed with frozen strawberries and lime juice for the perfect poolside daiquiri
