Welcome to #GoodGutFeels!
The interest and popularity around gut health has risen exponentially in recent years and for a very good reason. Whilst most of us will associate our gut with primarily managing digestion and absorption of nutrients from our food (and the elimination part of course) we now know that our gut has a much more far-reaching influence on our entire body.
IMMUNITY AND YOUR GUT
Many of you will be surprised to learn that 70-80% of our immune system is located and managed in our gut, over 90% of our overall serotonin (which is often dubbed our happy neurotransmitter) is produced in the gut, and we even have a sub set of microbes called the estrobolome which have an important role in helping to metabolise hormones.
Suffice to say what happens in the gut doesn’t stay in the gut. Much of this is due to the gut microbiome that collectively refers to all of the trillions of microbes that live in our gut. It is almost impossible to comprehend that amount! And whilst these microorganisms might be tiny their pivotal role in our health is hugely significant.
As a Nutritional Therapist specialising in gut health and twice published author on the subject, I’m incredibly passionate about sharing knowledge and insight into why it is vital we look after our gut. So naturally, I’m delighted to be part of the Nexba Good Gut Feels campaign to spread the gut love on how we can work to nourish and optimise our gut health.
